2016 Southern Cross Rally Festival - Day 1
Healesville to Marysville

The 2016 Southern Cross Rally Festival started out Healesville in Victoria on Monday, October 24. The cars assembled during the morning and nobody was surprised to find a lot of Minis there, as the year is not only the 50th anniversary of the running of the first Southern Cross Rally, but also the 50th anniversary of the time that Minis took the first nine places in the Gallaher 500 at Bathurst. To add to the occasion, Rauno Aaltonen, the driver of the winning Mini in 1966, was here to take part in the rally anniversary drive.

The first day of the event was not intended to be too challenging, but a short drive to get everyone used to the instructions, to get to know each other and to get into the mood for the four days of action to follow.

After lunch the crews were issued with instructions and maps for the trip to Marysville, and everyone set off in anticipation of some good fun, good friendship, good driving and good roads over the next few days.
