Rosewood Rally

AMSAG in collaboration with the Wagga and District Car Club returned to Rosewood in 2022 for Round 2 of the 2022 Pipe King AMSAG Southern Cross Rally Series. The event was also part of the ACT Rally Series. Sponsored this year by Precision Auto Centre of Wagga Wagga, the event offered 200 kilometres of competitive driving on some excellent and exciting roads. I was hoping to sit beside John Fraser as codriver but a problem with supply of vital car parts forced us to withdraw. I was still there, but with my pink photographer's jacket on instead of my helmet.
Apart from being a bit chilly for officials standing out at night (it is classed as an alpine area and it was winter) the weather couldn't have been better. There was some light rain in the days before the event which should have kept the dust down (it didn't!) and left the roads in almost perfect condition. There were 51 entrants, of which 33 were classed as finishers (three withdrew before the start). This seems to be about average for rallies these days, with the high drop out rate probably best attributed to the lack of match practice because of event cancellations. You can do all the preparation in the world but the real test comes when the competition starts (as I found out in my return to competition at Orange)
