Stages 4 and 8 - Vulcan State Forest
9.37 kilometres

Photos taken at the spectator point on Ponderosa Road. The last time I attended a rally in this section of Vulcan State Forest I managed to trip on some blackberries and my camera did a nose dive into the ground, never to work again. When I went back a few days later to make an in-car video I totally destroyed a tyre. (I discovered the flat in the middle of the forest but the wheel nuts were immovable and I had no mobile phone signal, so I had to drive about 18 kilometres out to just near this spectator point to call the NRMA for assistance. Ford make excellent alloy wheels.) It was not a cheap event.

Luckily, I'm not superstitious so I was back this year with a new Nikon camera (bought about two weeks before this event so I'm still leaning what the 18 buttons and three little wheels do) and actual air in actual tyres.

As I said, I was still learning to use an unfamiliar camera. It was getting dark and the camera was automatically extending the exposure period, causing some motion blur. I'll know better next time. Also, after travelling all over the place and being continually covered with dust my nose was telling me it was time to head back to Oberon Leagues Club for a cleansing beer. So I did.

Tourists are lovely people even when they are nuisances. Obviously I have to take these videos at some day other than when the rally is happening, but that is usually when picnics are happening.

This video is 11:10 long, the fastest car in the event (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO7) did it in 5:26.

You can see my standard disclaimer about speed here.
